Estimator
Cloud DR recovery time estimator: which tools state targets that meet yours?
Short answer
Enter the recovery time and data-loss limits you must meet, your clouds and the incident you worry about most. The estimator checks them against the RTO and RPO figures vendors publish, re-weights our ranking and shows published prices. It does not predict how long your recovery will take. With the default inputs the top tool is Arpio.
Two numbers decide a cloud DR plan: the recovery time objective (how long the service may be down) and the recovery point objective (how much recent change you may lose). Only two tools in this set publish either figure, and both are vendor claims. The estimator shows where those claims sit against your targets, then re-weights our scores toward the incident you worry about most.
What are your targets?
Your targets against published figures
| Tool | RTO check | RPO check |
|---|---|---|
| Arpio | No RTO published. Ask the vendor for a stated RTO and how it was measured. | Arpio states RPOs as low as 15 minutes in Standard, inside your 60-minute target. Vendor claim, not tested. Source: Arpio pricing · Read 27 Sep 2026 |
| Firefly | Firefly states an RTO under 1 hour, inside your 4-hour target. Vendor claim, not tested. Source: Firefly: cloud disaster recovery use case · Read 27 Sep 2026 | No RPO published. Firefly does not back up data contents, so RPO for data depends on your data backup product. |
| Commvault Cloud Rewind | No RTO published. Ask the vendor for a stated RTO and how it was measured. | No RPO published. |
| ControlMonkey | No RTO published. Ask the vendor for a stated RTO and how it was measured. | No RPO published. |
| Gambit Security | No RTO published. Ask the vendor for a stated RTO and how it was measured. | No RPO published. |

- Gambit Security: Not documented for AWS on the pages reviewed. Named clouds are not published on Gambit's site. Its AWS Marketplace listing is a SaaS product deployed on AWS.
Published prices for 25 core resources on 1 cloud
- Firefly: Backup and DR is Enterprise only, custom priced. The published Essential tier ($2,499 a month billed annually, up to 20,000 assets) does not include it.

Scores are editorial assessments from public vendor pages read in September and October 2026 and updated on 13 October 2026. Recovery figures and prices are as the vendors published them on that date.
How does the estimator work?
- Start from the published weights: scope 20, orchestration 15, region loss 15, rollback 15, targets 10, testing 10, data 10, pricing 5.
- Incident: outage doubles orchestration and multiplies testing by 1.5; bad change doubles rollback; region loss doubles region loss; all three equally changes nothing.
- Data from the same tool = Yes doubles data.
- Advanced sliders, if moved, replace the adjusted weight for their criterion.
- Re-weighted score = sum of (score x adjusted weight) / sum of adjusted weights, shown to one decimal; tools are ranked by the exact value and ties share a rank.
- Clouds are a check, not a filter: a tool with no documentation for a selected cloud is flagged.
- Prices are only the published tiers and figures; nothing is multiplied into a total.
Re-weighted score = sum of (criterion score x adjusted weight) / sum of adjusted weights. Adjusted weights: scope 20.0, orchestration 15.0, region loss 15.0, rollback 15.0, targets 10.0, testing 10.0, data 10.0, pricing 5.0.
Frequently asked questions
Does the estimator predict my recovery time?
No. It compares your targets with figures vendors publish and re-ranks tools using our published scores. Your real recovery time depends on your environment, your data and how often you rehearse.
Why do most tools show no RTO or RPO?
Because they do not publish one on the pages we reviewed. Ask each vendor for a stated figure and how it was measured, and test it in a proof of concept.
Why does choosing Bad change move Firefly up?
Bad-change rollback is the criterion where Firefly scores highest in this set, so doubling its weight raises Firefly's re-weighted score. Choosing Outage or Region loss weights criteria where Arpio scores higher.
Why is only Arpio priced for my resource count?
Arpio is the only recovery tool here that prices on a unit you can count on its own page: core resources per tier. Commvault Cloud Rewind prices per instance on AWS Marketplace, Firefly's Essential price does not include Backup and DR, and ControlMonkey prices Pro and Enterprise by quote.
